Vision
A participatory democracy where grassroots activists successfully influence public policy development, implementation and review in the interests of sustainable development.
Mission
To build a culture of participation in the development, implementation and review of public policy and legislation.
Goals:
-
The promotion of opportunities for participation
-
Strengthening the practice of participatory governance
Our History
The Participation Junction promotes an approach to participation that will enhance our democracy. The Junction is a resource to share networks, knowledge, skills and experiences that will assist disadvantaged communities in negotiating rights and basic needs with Government.
In early 2006 the Participation Junction emerged in response to the gap left by Contact Trust, an organisation that contributed to strengthening participation in policy issues over 7 years. Contact Trust’s governing board regretted the closure of the organisation as they believed it still had a purpose but they had not raised sufficient funds to continue.
The Junction is built on the collective lessons learnt, the experiences and the insights gained within the Contact Trust era. It will build on the model for promoting participation that has been developed by Contact Trust. It will find opportunities at different layers of social life to promote a culture of participatory governance.

Who We Are
The Participation Junction is a non-profit registered Trust operating across South Africa . It is managed by a Board of Trustees and the strategic focus of the Junction’s work is guided by consultations with leaders from the development sector.
An internship programme offers graduate students the opportunity to understand South African governance and democracy issues from close range.
