About the ProgrammeThe Internship Programme aims to expand Participation Junction's capacity to keep the public informed on policy and legislation. Interns are a vital part of the organisation. In addition to providing much needed skills, interns bring with them a diversity of ideas and initiatives that enrich the organisation. In exchange, interns are guaranteed a close encounter with the world of public policy through their interactions with Government Department senior management, Parliamentary office bearers, Municipal Managers, MPs and Councilors as well as the community organisations involved in advocacy. Their insight into the workings of Government will be deepened and their research skills honed while they come to appreciate the dynamics and nuances of the trade offs that are made in the decision making process. Participation Junction is committed to providing interns with opportunities for independent thought and initiative. Out interns are not office assistants; rather they are an integral part of the staff and will be given their own projects and responsibilities. Testimonials from Participation Junction Interns“My internship experience at Participation Junction has been extremely fulfilling. The responsibilities and tasks that I have been designated make me feel apart of the team. One of the many fulfilling projects I gained from the experience at Participation Junction was the encouragement to use my creative ability to create and design the organisation’s newsletters. I also feel as though the skills I have acquired during my time at Participation Junction will only help to further my future endeavours. It has been a delight to work with the hard working, friendly and dedicated staff at PJ!” – Yara, 2007-2008 “ As a research intern at Participation Junction I was given various responsibilities and tasks which provided me with important experiences. I was able to attend committee meetings, interact with government officials and help to disseminate information to encourage democratic participation. In addition, working with the staff at Participation Junction has also always been enjoyable and helpful. Overall, I’d say there are few opportunities available where you can work hard and actually see that your work is benefiting the less fortunate in a tangible way. It was a very uplifting and inspiring experience.” Ben, 2007-2008 For more information please contact the Programme Co-ordinator. |
